What’s new
Recent improvements to Spool Studio. Your open import or NFC session stays in its original tab.
v1.9.33 · Send all four filaments in one go
- Choose the loaded filament for each U1 tool, review once, then send the whole four-tool setup.
- Each tool keeps its own verified result. If a tool fails, the remaining tools stop for a fresh review rather than silently continuing.
- Update Spool Studio Bridge to 0.2.2 to fix the readiness check that could block later tools after the first send. Your existing printer key still works.
v1.9.32 · Send YAB3D palettes through your existing bridge
- Open your applied YAB3D palette in Send to printer with its four physical slots already arranged.
- Match each slot against your own library, review any alternative colour or material, and confirm each send through your existing Spool Studio Bridge.
- YAB3D receives queued and verified outcomes. No new desktop app, launcher or printer key is needed.
v1.9.31 · Your workshop at a glance
- Home brings together available stock, recorded remaining weight, low-weight spools and recent additions without guessing missing measurements.
- Select recent labels opens individual purchases newest first, keeping older matching spools separate.
- Collection cards keep spool numbers and packaging visible, show recorded weights, and tuck secondary controls into Spool actions.
v1.9.30 · Compare ChromaMatter projects with your spools
- ChromaMatter projects open for spool comparison with a clear explanation of how to choose physical filaments before colour preparation.
- Choose a saved ChromaMatter plate to match its own physical filament colours and find the available SP label numbers in your library.
- Replacement 3MF downloads are blocked for ChromaMatter projects to protect their saved material assignments and colour recipes.
v1.9.29 · Print labels for only the purchases you select
- Select entries now temporarily separates combined filament cards into their individual purchase entries, so older matching stock is no longer selected with a recent addition.
- The selection panel points recent barcode batches to Added / imported · newest first and explains when one entry represents several rolls.
- Leaving selection restores the previous exact-colour or colour-family grouping without changing inventory or permanent spool numbers.
v1.9.28 · Match standard filament barcodes from a real catalogue
- Barcode lookup now starts with a bundled Open Filament Database snapshot covering 2,543 published GTINs across 29 brands, including 249 Bambu Lab sizes, instead of relying on one-off fixes.
- A single complete community match fills the review form immediately without spending the external lookup allowance; nothing is added until you check the box and save.
- If UPCitemdb or exact web search is unavailable, the app now reports an incomplete lookup instead of falsely saying that no online product exists.
- The mobile barcode label now has clear space below the camera button, and Add to library / Save & scan next no longer float over unfinished form fields.
v1.9.27 · Make every barcode scan clear and useful
- A successful camera read now stays visible as a clear barcode confirmation and gives supported phones a short haptic response before lookup begins.
- Unknown codes now continue from the saved library into the online catalogue search automatically; retry, product-page, ordinary web-search and manual routes remain visible rather than hiding the useful lookup in a disclosure.
- The verified Bambu Lab PLA Basic Bambu Green refill barcode 6975337035817 now fills its exact 1 kg, no-spool draft immediately.
- Mobile add-spool fields no longer trigger iPhone focus zoom, and the dialog blocks horizontal overflow and reserves scrollbar space to prevent side-to-side movement.
v1.9.26 · Turn barcode matches into useful drafts
- External barcode lookup now combines UPCitemdb with Firecrawl instead of letting a weak UPC result block wider search, reads matching public pages and puts the most complete review drafts first.
- Product links can use the same full-page reader when a retailer blocks direct access or exposes too few details; a barcode already scanned stays attached while the product page fills the form.
- Dual-colour, tri-colour and gradient text is no longer mistaken for a multipack. Material, finish, named colours, gradient preview, per-roll weight and spool packaging are retained when the source states them.
v1.9.25 · Recognise Bambu variants and multi-colour filament
- Barcode 6977252427234 and the matching Bambu Lab product link now fill a reviewed Velvet Eclipse Black / Red draft with silk finish, 1 kg weight and supplied-spool packaging.
- The add form now explains how to enter dual-colour, tri-colour and gradient filament, and shows a live estimated gradient for recognised colour names.
- Unknown GTIN searches can now follow an empty UPCitemdb result with a configured Firecrawl exact-code web search; every result remains an unverified draft until reviewed and saved.
v1.9.24 · Keep the iPhone camera open while scanning
- Spool Studio now owns the live camera preview directly instead of allowing the barcode decoder to stop the stream after an early iPhone frame error.
- Unreadable frames are skipped and scanning continues every fraction of a second. The camera closes only after a result, an explicit stop, leaving the app or the existing timeout.
- Rear-camera preference, either-orientation decoding and Rotate view remain available.
v1.9.23 · Restore the iPhone camera preview
- Camera startup again uses the simpler iPhone-compatible rear-camera preference instead of forcing a particular lens, resolution and autofocus mode.
- Orientation-independent barcode reading and the Rotate view control remain available.
- If the browser or decoder ends a camera stream, the scanner now closes the dead preview and shows a clear restart message instead of leaving a black box.
v1.9.22 · Barcode scanning that follows the box
- The phone scanner now prefers the rear camera, reads barcodes in either orientation and uses a clearer square guide with a manual Rotate view control.
- Known sourced barcodes immediately fill a review draft beside the scanner, so a successful match is no longer hidden farther down the form.
- Unknown codes clearly confirm that the scan worked, then reveal library reuse, box-detail and web-search fallbacks before the optional public catalogue lookup.
- Save controls stay out of the camera view and remain on one row on narrow phones. Scanner JavaScript and CSS now revalidate so mobile devices receive fixes promptly.
v1.9.21 · An easier barcode-to-box workflow
- Barcode entry separates a successful scan from catalogue coverage. Checks include saved barcodes and a small sourced catalogue, with a reviewed Phantom Blue draft for barcode 6937285507419.
- Unknown codes can reuse an exact filament from your own library or open a web search. Saving the new entry remembers its barcode without editing the template purchase.
- Save & scan next keeps the add flow open, clears the previous box's details and restarts the camera after a successful save. Failed saves keep the draft. Extra catalogue help is collapsed to keep the form shorter.
v1.9.20 · Shop your recommended palette
- Owned palette reviews now include Amazon UK searches for each suggested filament's brand, product range and named shade.
- Unmatched colours can search the requested shade instead; broad HEX-derived colour families are explicitly marked approximate. Paid links and affiliate disclosure are shown beside the recommendations.
- Searches open separately and do not change stock or your palette. Prices, availability and exact product matches are not verified.
v1.9.19 · Build a palette from your own filament
- Build owned palette compares up to four included colours together, balancing close individual matches with colour separation across the palette.
- Review requested and suggested swatches before applying. Existing choices are kept by default; unavailable or unknown-finish matches stay for manual selection.
- Manufacturer, estimated and custom colour sources are shown beside matching stock. Swatches are approximate, not measurements or a simulation of the printed model.
v1.9.18 · Calmer screens, clearer next steps
- Match a print now puts filament choices first, with Suggest matches and Review & export together. Loaded model controls collapse out of the way.
- Cost estimates sit below the matches as an optional expandable tool. Phone/NFC tools, known-finish controls and shopping links no longer interrupt choosing your stock.
- Expanded alternatives and costing remain open as you change filament choices; cost inputs and the existing export safeguards are preserved.
- App settings keep device, account and updates visible, with occasional setup, data and compatibility tools tucked into labelled sections. Physical spools show 12 results at a time instead of 40.
- Help opens by topic, including direct links to setup instructions. NFC puts your current batch and device status ahead of optional stock-adding and installation tools.
v1.9.17 · Spool numbers while matching a print
- Match a print now shows printed SP numbers beside the chosen filament and alternative matches, including reels from grouped purchases. Used-up reels are excluded.
- Open a reel in a new tab without losing your model or colour choices. Large groups expand to show all numbers; unassigned entries link to spool management.
v1.9.16 · Gradient swatches for multicolour filament
- Named colour combinations such as Purple / Green and Red / Blue / Gold now blend into gradient swatches in Collection and List.
- Gradients are labelled as estimates. Single colours and manual colour overrides stay unchanged; saved hex values, printer settings, matching and printed labels are unaffected.
v1.9.15 · See label numbers on your filament cards
- Collection cards and List rows now show their printed SP numbers. Tap a number to open that physical reel; grouped colours include numbers from every matching purchase entry.
- Large groups show four numbers with an expandable list for the rest. Used reels are included only when Show used is enabled, and entries without assigned numbers link to spool management.
v1.9.14 · Renumber existing spools in hue order
- Shelf & labels now has Renumber spools: review the full library's hue-ordered numbering, download an old-to-new number map and confirm before anything changes.
- Existing QR destinations, Spoolman links, weights and locations are preserved. Old printed SP numbers need replacement labels; future purchases continue from the previous next-number counter.
v1.9.13 · Find spool IDs and print clearer labels
- Find permanent spool numbers from the library search or Spools & usage using SP-00081, SP81 or 81. Existing filters still apply.
- A4 inventory sheets now include Spool / refill: With spool, Refill — no spool or Not stated, based on saved packaging.
- Dense sticker labels try a compact layout before reporting overflow, without reducing the QR size or the 8 pt base-font minimum. Labels that still cannot fit jump to the affected preview with suggestions instead of only naming the spool.
v1.9.12 · Restore the colour shelf overview
- Fixed the colour shelf overview showing empty-looking buttons after the UI refresh. Swatches now keep their saved colours when selected, hovered or keyboard-focused.
- Restored compact overview swatches with clear selection and keyboard outlines. No filament colours, quantities or spool IDs were changed.
v1.9.11 · Print your spool inventory on A4
- Print A4 inventory is available in Collection, List and Shelf & labels. Print the whole available library, all current results or selected entries, not just the current page.
- Print one row per reel with its permanent number, colour swatch and name, and brand / filament. Sort by spool number or colour shelf order, with optional shelf positions or saved locations.
- A4 sheets continue over multiple pages with repeated table headings. Print to an ordinary printer or Save as PDF. Missing IDs are clearly marked and no stock records are changed.
v1.9.10 · Number new spool IDs in colour shelf order
- When assigning IDs from Shelf & labels, choose current shelf / colour order or stored library order. Shelf order uses the full colour shelf and its current sort setting, ignoring filters and the print range.
- Existing permanent IDs and QR links never change. Only unnumbered rolls receive the next available IDs; new purchases continue the sequence.
- Shelf label snapshots now include the library revision so assignment can refresh QR previews safely without leaving the label workflow.
v1.9.9 · Choose Strata colours from your available filament
- Review and share a one-time snapshot of your available filament colours with Strata, then choose your model palette there.
- Sharing includes swatches, brand, product, shade, material, finish and available roll counts only. Prices, purchases, emails, stock IDs and account credentials stay private.
- Nothing is shared until you approve. Used-up and unknown-count entries are excluded, and your stock is never changed or reserved.
v1.9.8 · Bring your Strata project straight into matching
- Spool Studio can receive a complete 3MF directly from the supported Strata handoff, including saved thumbnails and native mixing data, without uploading the model or replacing existing comparisons.
- The transfer shows progress and offers cancellation, with a manual file-import fallback. Review and choose your filaments as usual; receiving a project does not change stock, sync to your phone automatically or send anything to a printer.
v1.9.7 · Quick finish matching
- Match a print now offers Match unknown finishes: choose Standard / basic, Matte or another finish and apply it to selected colours missing a finish in the current model. Known finishes and library entries stay unchanged.
- Each model colour has a visible Requested finish selector without opening More options. Matches refresh immediately; changing a finish clears that colour's chosen filament so it can be reviewed again.
v1.9.6 · Spool or refill, clearly labelled
- Labels now show a separate With spool, Refill — no spool or Spool not stated line, enabled by default and independently adjustable under Label details.
- Older imports use the same packaging interpretation as the library cards instead of silently losing that detail on labels. This describes purchased packaging, not whether a refill has since been mounted.
v1.9.5 · Permanent IDs without leaving labels
- Missing QR spool IDs? Assign permanent IDs directly beside the label warning. The action applies to all counted rolls in your library without changing quantities or used marks.
- Your label size, copies and selection remain in place, and QR previews refresh after assignment. Printing still requires your own Print labels click.
v1.9.4 · Add filament straight from your phone
- Mobile navigation now puts Add spools and Scan barcode alongside your library and NFC tags. The NFC landing page has a prominent shortcut for adding new filament.
- Barcode shortcuts open Add spools with the barcode method selected and the camera button ready. Camera access still requires your tap, and every new spool needs review before saving.
- Supported home-screen app menus include Scan barcode and Add spools shortcuts. Manual entry remains available when a code cannot be identified.
v1.9.3 · Windows startup switch fixed
- Bridge desktop beta 0.2.1 fixes the startup checkbox reverting to off even after Windows saved the setting, including installation paths containing spaces.
- Startup changes return immediately while the printer connects in the background. Failures appear beside the switch. Install the desktop update; an existing enabled Windows entry is recognised automatically.
v1.9.2 · Remember your Windows bridge
- Bridge desktop beta 0.2.0 adds an optional Start with Windows and reconnect automatically setting.
- After Windows sign-in, the bridge opens in the tray, checks the printer and retries if the printer or network is unavailable. Existing printing and firmware safety checks remain unchanged.
- Stop cancels automatic reconnect for the current session; disabling the option removes the Windows startup entry. Install the new desktop version and enable the option once.
v1.9.1 · Visible printer connection feedback
- Bridge desktop beta 0.1.1 shows checking, success, busy, unsupported and failed results beside Check connection, without scrolling.
- The desktop badge distinguishes a successful check from a running bridge. Download and install the updated desktop app to receive this fix.
v1.9.0 · A desktop companion for your printer
- Download Spool Studio Bridge for Windows or Mac: import your private configuration, check the connection, then start. No Node installation or repository checkout is needed.
- The desktop beta keeps credentials in encrypted operating-system storage and runs in the tray or menu bar. It requires a manual check/start after restarting.
- Printer setup now leads through the desktop flow, with Docker and source instructions kept as advanced options. This companion sends reviewed printer settings; Spoolman weight sync remains separate.
- The first desktop packages are unsigned and not Apple-notarised. Operating systems may block installation; trusted signing and real-hardware acceptance remain outstanding.
v1.8.1 · Printer setup stays put
- Local bridge setup no longer closes or reopens during automatic status updates or when you return to the window.
- Creating a printer key keeps the configuration download visible while you enter your addresses.
v1.8.0 · One connected workspace
- A consistent workflow sidebar connects your library, print preparation, printer tools and support. On mobile, use the bottom navigation and Menu to reach every workspace.
- Shorter filament cards, quieter buttons and a compact Filters menu put more of your stock on screen. Your light or dark theme follows you between pages.
- Matching reveals phone and export actions after a model is loaded. Printer setup comes first when no bridge is configured, and the setup checklist opens one step at a time.
- Labels and QR codes keep their physical print sizes; inventory, import approvals and printer safety checks are unchanged.
v1.7.3 · Labels your way
- Choose crisp Classic or Soft corners QR styling. Codes grow on larger labels while keeping a clear white border; always test one printed code before a batch.
- Show shelf positions, saved reel locations, your own batch location or no location. Hide optional brand, material and weight details for a cleaner label.
- QR printing now asks you to assign missing permanent spool IDs rather than silently leaving codes off. Text-only labels remain available.
v1.7.2 · Bigger, more readable labels
- Label text now grows to fit the selected label, with the same sizing in preview and print. Larger paper no longer uses tiny fixed-size text. Added a 105 × 145 mm preset and clearer matching printer-paper, margin and header settings.
v1.7.1 · Printer support for older imports
- Older library entries with explicit Basic, Standard, Matte or Silk product names can use Send to printer without re-entering their finish. Saved finish choices stay unchanged; ambiguous product names still require review.
v1.7.0 · Send filament to your U1, without a tag
- Send to printer lets you choose a library filament and tool 1–4, review the change and verify printer read-back. Works from iPhone, Android and desktop through a separately configured local bridge.
- Optional assignment of an already-mapped physical reel to Spoolman, with material/colour and duplicate-tool checks. Colour-only sends explicitly clear old tracking assignments. Busy printers, expired reviews and unsupported metadata fail closed; printer commands are never retried automatically. No temperatures, heating, motion or print jobs are sent.
v1.6.0 · A calmer way to import
- Review detected filament in a compact table, with quantities, costs, similar stock and repeated entries visible at a glance. Open one row for corrections and matching purchase details; select new entries across the batch or deselect everything.
- Gmail’s Review selected orders now reads the chosen messages straight into the review table, without a copy-text step. Email results are compact and scroll within their own list. Source text remains available, and nothing is saved without your review. CSV, photo and costs-only imports use the same table.
v1.5.1 · A little nudge for new updates
- The What’s New icon now highlights unread releases. Viewing the latest notes clears the highlight across tabs on this browser; a later release lights it up again, without refreshing your work.
v1.5.0 · Your library, in living colour
- Explore your available filament in an animated Colour wheel. Slice sizes represent roll counts, neutrals have their own inner ring, and selecting a shade reveals its filament and colour source. Includes pause, keyboard navigation and reduced-motion support.
- Gmail now reads HTML-only order emails as plain text on your device, without displaying email markup or loading tracking images. Plain-text versions are preferred and attachments stay excluded.
v1.4.3 · Clearer Gmail order selection
- Gmail shows how many emails are selected, stops at ten and offers Clear selection without clearing your draft. Order searches also exclude return, refund and cancellation subjects.
v1.4.2 · Safer Gmail connection setup
- Cancelled or outdated Gmail setup can no longer reappear after switching accounts or leaving the page. Connections are prepared for the current account, and disconnect clears that preparation.
v1.4.1 · Shared barcode lookup protection
- External barcode lookups now share a persistent allowance across server instances. Busy or exhausted lookups explain when to retry; manual entry and your own saved barcode matches remain available.
v1.4.0 · Enrich costs, keep your place
- Update existing costs only: review imported prices against their original purchases without adding stock or changing roll counts, permanent IDs or used marks. Existing prices require explicit replacement confirmation.
- Setup stays with you: feature pages show a return-to-checklist bar that brings you back to the same step.
v1.3.0 · Welcome to your workshop
- An optional welcome checklist guides you from your first spool to print matching, mobile setup, labels, NFC and Spoolman. Progress follows your account, and you can skip steps or hide the reminder without changing stock or connections.
v1.2.0 · Manufacturer colour matching
- Automatic manufacturer hex codes for 69 Bambu PLA Basic, PLA Matte and PETG HF shades. Existing known estimates refresh without discarding saved colours; custom overrides stay protected. Add and import forms fill verified colours and show their source.
v1.1.1 · Our filament community
- App & device now shows the combined available-roll count across Spool Studio accounts. Refills count; used-up rolls and unknown quantities do not. Only the total is shared, never individual libraries.
v1.1.0 · Spool prices and filament cost estimates
- Optional budgeting fallback: assume £15/kg (editable) where purchase costs are missing. Assumptions are labelled and never saved as actual purchase prices.
- Save optional per-roll costs and currency in your library. Import costs from CSV or clearly labelled email/image text, then review before saving.
- Match a print now estimates filament costs from manually entered slicer grams, with price ranges and clear unknown-cost warnings. It does not slice your model or extract usage automatically.
v1.0.0 · Easier organising, clearer imports
- Gmail test importer: focus on order confirmations and receipts, rather than delivery updates and setup emails. Switch to All matching emails when needed. Gmail is still a private test, not available to every account.
- Sort your collection by purchase or import date. Select entries for bulk edits and print labels for just that selection.
- Use smaller cards on mobile, with your preference remembered on that device. Full-size cards now keep their action buttons aligned.
- Print box and spool labels in multiple sizes, including 60 × 30 mm and MUNBYN 76 × 50 mm. Permanent spool IDs and private QR links are available under Physical spools & usage.
- Find this version number and release notes in the library, importer, phone programmer and App & device. Existing installs update online; no reinstall is needed.
Not seeing an update? Finish any import or NFC scan first, then refresh that page. App & device also has a manual update check.
